Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2") (Learn More) The New Show World 1929 - 1930, the 1929 Paramount studio campaign book ("The new show world 1929-1930") sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Paramount movies. The book includes 74 pages with one and two-page spreads on Paramount's upcoming movies and stars. Some of the movies and stars advertised include Clara Bow, Illusion, The Cocoanuts (Marx Bros.), The Love Parade, Charles Buddy Rogers, The Virginian (Gary Cooper), The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu, Gary Cooper, Sweetie, plus much more! Note that, because Paramount at this time was one of the very leading studios, and had many of the biggest name stars and directors, and also had lots of money to spend, they made lots of great movies this year, and they also were proposing many unbelievable movies that never got made. In later years (perhaps because of cost restraints), Paramount did not use as much full-color artwork as the lesser studios, but THIS year, the entire book is filled with wonderful full-color artwork. We have included images of the front cover of the book and many of the interior two-page spreads (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones, and we really wish we could have pictured them all!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Note that some of the movies listed in this book may never have been made at all, and some had their titles changed, and some had their cast or director changed! Note that studios almost always spent far more money preparing campaign books than they did preparing movie posters (often hiring very talented and well-known illustration artists), because campaign books directly benefited the studio in getting theaters to book the movies, whereas posters more benefited the theaters, rather than the studios (although of course, what was good for the theaters was ultimately good for the studios as well). Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: From the middle 1910s on studios would once a year issue an elaborate book showing their forthcoming movies, which was sent to some theater owners. The size and quality of these books very greatly depending on studio and when they were made. The very best of these books were hardcovers, and in the early 1930s, studios hired top artists to create full-color art for each upcoming movie, for they realized how important these books were towards the movies' success. This week on eBay we are offering three of the very best campaign books, in terms of quality of printing, and quality of art! Condition: very good. the interior pages of this book are mostly in nice condition, but a very few of the pages have some small stains; some young amateur artist drew on the blank front and back pages in pencil! The front and back covers have "bumps" and scuffs around the edges and the spine of the book is slightly separating Learn More about condition grades
