Note that Grace Moore was a major New York opera star starting in 1928 (she was called "The Tennessee Nightingale") who was hired by MGM in 1930 to star in a biography of Jenny Lind called "A Lady's Morals". But it did not do well at the box office, and she made one other movie for MGM, and then she returned to the opera. But in 1934, Columbia hired her to make this movie, and this was much better received, and she appeared in five more Columbia movies. Grace Moore was killed in a plane crash in 1947, and a biography of her life was made in 1953, "So This is Love", with Kathryn Grayson playing Grace Moore NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Embs Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have never auctioned before. There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tears and small paper loss on parts of the horizontal folds, with extra creases along the middle horizontal fold and a much lesser amount of wear on the vertical fold. It had some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss in non-fold areas and some small tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
