Condition: very good. The poster had creases, tiny surface paper loss, and some tiny tears along several of the foldlines. There were many creases and tears in the part of the poster that was on the outside when the poster was fully folded, and very fortunately, this was the rectangle that fell below the "THE" of the title, which extends down to the top of the man's hat, so it was mostly solid black background that was affected. There were similar tears in the rectangle on the far right of the poster (which equally fortunately falls under the "GER" of "DOGGER" in the title and extends down to above the woman's hat, and again, was mostly just solid black background). There were some tears around the edges of those two rectangles, and some tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not attempt to conceal the defects in the solid black background areas (perhaps because doing so would have required much paint restoration, and perhaps the owner of the poster preferred to be able to see some restoration to having the poster look "restored", with lots of paint in the solid background areas. The restoration IS noticeable, but it is not very distracting (and certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional touch up to the poster without re-backing it). Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster.
