An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 5" x 7" [13 x 18 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Edgar Bergen was an actor and ventriloquist from the 1930s to the 1970s. He is best remembered as the creator of ventriloquist dummy, Charlie McCarthy. Bergen and Charlie were so popular that they appeared regularly on the radio, which does not sound like a possible venue for the duo, but the joy of listening to them was in their personalities much more so than Bergen's skill as a ventriloquist, and in many of their appearances, Charlie McCarthy is treated as a real mischievous human boy, and not a ventriloquist's dummy. Edgar Bergen and Charlie appear most famously in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, Charlie McCarthy Detective, and Pure Feud. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 75. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Edgar Bergen! Also note that this still measures 5" x 7" [13 x 18 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Finally, note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. This signed photo (and others from this same collection we are offering in separate auctions) comes from the estate of Dorothy Credille, who was a Hollywood publicist in the 1930s to the 1950s. During the course of her work, she became personal friends and an acquaintance of all the top Hollywood stars, and she received many autographed 8x10s and 11x14s from them, many personalized to her. Condition: very good. The still has paper residue on the back of the corners where it was glued to a mat or album page. The still has slightly darkened in the top 1".
