An Original Vintage Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Moonstone, the 1915 Frank Hall Crane silent British-in-India detective crime mystery thriller (based on the novel by Wilkie Collins; about a legendary huge diamond, based on the Hope Diamond, which was stolen from the eye of a statue of a Hindu god, and it brings misfortune to all who possess it, but because of its great value, many people keep trying to acquire it!) starring Eugene O'Brien, Elaine Hammerstein, Ruth Findlay, William Roselle, and Edmund Mortimer. Note that this novel was first written in 1868, and is widely considered to be the first detective novel written in English. It was made into a stage play in 1877, and this was its first film version. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1915 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a single window card from this movie until we received this title card! Note that in the earliest days of lobby cards (mostly between 1915 and 1919), lobby sets were usually NINE cards. There were eight scene cards, and an additional "title card", that was REALLY a title card, because it normally just had text on it with the title of the movie and the credits, but no image. Some time at the end of the 1910s, studios realized they could print lobby cards on two half-sheet-sized sheets and then trim them into eight lobby cards, which saved a lot of money, and at that time they eliminated the title card and changed one of the scene cards into a modern day title card (with both image and credits), and the eight card lobby card has remained the standard to the present day. The title card offered here is one of those mid 1910s true title cards! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. There is red crayon writing and partially erased pencil marks scattered in the background areas, with much pencil writing on the back of the card. Obviously, the above defects can be restored, and it is fortunate that they are primarily in the background areas (and of course, it could be displayed as it is). See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Learn More about condition grades
