He brought his son, Carl Laemmle Jr., into the business, and by the 1930s, his son gained control of the studio AND Carl Laemmle Jr. was a producer in the 1920s and 1930s. His father, Carl Laemmle Sr., had founded the studio in the early 1910s, and in 1928, he passed control of Universal Pictures to him (he became head of production), and he produced many of Universal's greatest movies including: All Quiet on the Western Front, and their most legendary horror movies, including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, and The Bride of Frankenstein. But he spent too much money on too many movies, and the studio was in rocky financial shape, and in the mid 1930s, the board of directors forced both father and son out of the studio, and neither made another movie (although Junior lived another 43 years)! Important Added Info: Note that this great photo of the founder of Universal Studios and his son, who later turned on his father, was taken in 1932, when Universal was celebrating its 20th anniversary!
