Created by writer and artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, Fury first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos in 1963, but then, in 1965, the character was transformed by artist Jim Steranko into a spy (like James Bond) and leading agent of the fictional espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and beginning in 1968, he appeared in his own comic "Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." The character has appeared in TV shows and the Avengers movies (played by Samuel L. Jackson)!
