An Original Vintage English Magazine Supplement (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More)

A Girl in Every Port, the 1928 Howard Hawks silent romantic comedy ("They learned about loving from him!"; about a sailor who literally has "a girlfriend in every port"!) starring Victor McLaglen, Louise Brooks, Liela Hyams, Robert Armstrong, Maria Alba (billed as "Maria Casajuana"), Francis McDonald, Natalie Joyce, and Myrna Loy (in a bit part). Note that this is one of the few American movies Louise Brooks had a major role in before going to Germany and making her memorable movies with G.W. Pabst. AND Anna May Wong was a Chinese-American actress from the 1910s to the 1960s. Some of her movies include: Shanghai Express, Thief of Bagdad, Impact, Across to Singapore, and Piccadilly. Unfortunately, due to the prejudices of the time, the studios cast white actresses over her, even in Asian roles, having the white actresses perform in "yellowface", which meant that Miss Wong would almost always play a friend or enemy of the white actress in the lead Asian role! She passed away in 1961 at the age of 56.
Important Added Info: Note that this 4-page English supplement has an illustrated cover story on "A Girl in Every Port" and a great interior 2-page spread that is a full image of Anna May Wong! Also note that in the late 1920s and early 1930s, the top English movie magazines started including "supplements" in the center of the magazine (sometimes they were bound in, and sometimes they were loose). These were like the Sunday newspaper "rotogravure" sections, and were all sepia and had great images from then-current movies. This supplement is from the August 18, 1928 issue of Picture Show.
