An Original Undated (probably late 1940s; from the first release of this movie in Belgium) Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 11" x 13 3/4" [28 x 35 cm]) (Learn More) The Invisible Man Returns, the 1940 Joe May Universal science fiction (sci-fi) horror thriller sequel ("A new fantastic sensation suggested by 'The Invisible Man' by H.G. Wells"; "They hear him! They feel him! But they can't stop him!") starring Cedric Hardwicke (billed as "Sir Cedric Hardwicke"), Vincent Price (in the title role as the Invisible Man), Nan Grey, John Sutton, Cecil Kellaway, Alan Napier, Forrester Harvey, Ernie Adams, and Matthew Boulton NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very unusual poster! It is printed on the back of part of a map (see below), and it is a small size, which normally would mean that it is from the very first release of the movie in Belgium right after World War II. Yet we have also seen a poster with an entirely different image for this movie, which is also printed on the back of a map, and is also a small size! So it is possible that two different posters were created, but it is more likely that they are from two different releases (perhaps the movie was very popular in Belgium). We can't determine if one of the posters predates the other. Therefore, PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THE UNCERTAINTY AS TO WHETHER IT IS FROM THE FIRST RELEASE OR A VERY QUICK RE-RELEASE. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this poster is printed on the back of part of a map! Why is this? During World War II, there were massive paper shortages in Belgium. Where Belgian movie posters had previously been approximately 23" x 32", there was such a shortage of paper that not only did they often have to print them on the back of other posters or maps, but during World War II, the size of the posters shrank dramatically, with some of them as small as 11" x 15". This situation continued even after World War II, until around 1946 or 1947, when they began making Belgian movie posters in a size of roughly 14" x 22", which became the standard size, and continued for decades! The posters like these that are from during World War II or immediately after, and which are printed in a small size (often on the back of other posters or maps) are INCREDIBLY rare (surely they did not print many, and surely many of them were soon recycled themselves! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster was printed on the back of part of a map (see above). The printing from the map slightly bleeds through to the front, but it is mostly in the blank borders, although it is slightly in the faces. There are also two horizontal creases in the upper center of the poster (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
