Date Sold 4/5/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Smuggled Cargo, the 1939 John H. Auer & Michael Jacoby orange growers crime thriller ("Lynching! The blackest of all crimes... The frenzied, bestial defense of cowards against issues they do not dare face"; about a group of orange growers who need oil to keep the oranges warm during a cold spell, and they are blackmailed by the man who can get the oil into selling him the oranges at a really low price, and there is much murder and intrigue before things are resolved) starring Barry MacKay, Rochelle Hudson, George Barbier, Ralph Morgan, Cliff Edwards (billed as "Cliff 'Ukulele Ike' Edwards"), and John Wray. Note that this was a standard crime programmer of the time period, but Republic Pictures tried to make it far more interesting by calling it "Smuggled Cargo", even though that was not really what the movie was about, and more deceptively, they played up the potential lynching (which is a tiny part near the end of the movie) on the movie's advertising! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair to good. Someone backed nearly all of the foldlines of the back of the poster, some of which slightly bleeds through to the front. As such, the poster is difficult to full unfold. Some of the repairs are touched up with marker. Learn More about condition grades
