A Theatrical Folded Military One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Blob, the 1958 Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. science fiction (sci-fi) horror comedy thriller ("The Indestructible creature! The Blob"; "Bloated with the blood of its victims!"; "The management of this theatre disclaims any responsibility for heart attacks or damage to nerves."; "Certified"; "In Color!"; "Indescribable... Indestructible! Nothing can stop it!"; "It's indescribable! It's indestructible! Nothing... can stop it!"; "From an idea by Irvine H. Millgate") starring Steve McQueen (very young in this role; billed here as "Steven McQueen"), Aneta Corsaut (billed as "Aneta Corseaut" on the first release posters), Earl Rowe, Olin Howlin, Stephen Chase, John Benson, and George Karas. Note that the music for the title song for this movie was written by Burt Bacharach! Note that even though Steve McQueen was top billed in this movie, he was not yet known to the general public, and his image was not used on the posters (which DO have great art of the blob monster engulfing the townspeople).

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! This was found with a group of one-sheets that were from a California Air Force Base, and EVERY single one-sheet from that group were from 1958 (a few were from 1957)! It seems a certainty that someone at the Air Force base put them in a stack in 1958 and that they remained there for decades! There were seven of these military one-sheets that we are auctioning individually in this set of auctions, and there was a Vertigo military one-sheet which will be in our December Major auction, and also a number of much lesser ones which will be in our next bulk lot auction, and then there will be no more from this amazing find! This is a military one-sheet. Military one-sheets were printed at the same time as the regular U.S. one-sheets when the movie was first released. They were made to be used on U.S. military installations. Sometimes the poster has small writing at the bottom that says "For Distribution and Use at U.S. Military Establishments Only", and sometimes they just have "Litho in U.S.A." or "Printed in U.S.A." in small letters in the lower right or lower left.

Condition: good to very good. The poster has faint "ghosting" in the white background areas, caused by the printing on the other half of the poster (because the poster was folded too soon). It was folded in half an extra time resulting in a light vertical foldline at left and right and there are some tiny creases and scuffs along the folds. It has a few tiny dots of paper loss in the lower right vertical foldline. The very rare poster is otherwise in generally nice condition (see our image).
