Salon des Cent (literally translates to "Salon of the One Hundred") was a commercial art exhibition in Paris, France. The Salon sold color posters, prints and reproductions of artwork to the general public at reasonable prices. It was established in February of 1894 by Leon Deschamps, founder of La Plume, an avant garde literary and artistic magazine. It became known for its exhibitions showcasing the works of contemporary graphical artists. Many of the posters advertising Salon des Cent exhibitions have themselves become collectors' items.
Artist: Adolphe Willette
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which advertised the 26th Salon des Cent exhibition, which took place in 1897!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had darkened somewhat and it had smudges, stains, pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
