Miss Lind und der Matrose (literally translates to "Miss Lind and the Sailor"), the 1928 German stage play production (based on the book by Hans Leip) which was held on February 8th at the Deutsches Theatre in Munich, Germany. This poster features Olaf Gulbransson artwork of a sexy woman with her shirt open and the silhouette of a sailor and ship behind her. Note that this play was part of "The Feast of Simplicissimo". Simplicissimo was a leading publication in the fertile artistic and intellectual climate of the time which was started by Albert Langen in April 1896 and published until 1967. Hans Leip's novel was first published in Simplicissimo and he was a regular contributor. Olaf Gulbransson was an illustrator identified with the German satirists of the early 20th century, and noted for portrait caricature. He is also important as one of the first satirists of Adolf Hitler. Gulbransson studied at the Royal Norwegian Drawing School and worked for several Norwegian newspapers. After a visit to Paris in 1900, he returned to Oslo, where he distributed his first album consisting of caricatures of famous Norwegians. In 1902 he moved to Munich and began his long association with Simplicissimus. There he became famous for his gently satiric caricatures executed in a sure, bold style with a minimum number of lines.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. There were creases and tears in the blank borders and a few faint scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
