An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Babes in Arms, the 1939 Busby Berkeley romantic juvenile let's-put-on-a-show musical ("The Big Musical Fun Show!"; "Based on the play by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart"; Mickey is the son of vaudevillians who want to put on a traveling show that will bring back vaudeville, but Mickey and Judy organize their own show, with "modern" songs, and with no money for staging, they put on an incredible show!) starring Mickey Rooney (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Judy Garland, Charles Winninger, Guy Kibbee, June Preisser, Grace Hayes, Betty Jaynes, Douglas McPhail, Rand Brooks, Leni Lynn, and Johnny Sheffield (billed as "John Sheffield"). This is one of the absolute best "let's put on a show" musicals of the 1930s or 1940s, which is not surprising, since it combines the talents of Rodgers & Hart, Busby Berkeley, and Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, it appears that the 6" of the card was trimmed off, which includes the tagline area above the image. It also had a 3" vertical tear in the left of the bottom border and some pinholes and small tears around the edges, with some smudges scattered in the image, more so in the top left corner of the image, starting in the "M" of "Mickey" (it is difficult to see exactly what defects the card had, but much of the image was clearly in pretty nice condition, although there definitely were smudges scattered throughout. Someone paperbacked the card onto a heavy backing, and they put a 6" blank area at the top of the card and recreated the missing tagline (but they did not recreate the missing portion of the top of the "J" and "d" of "Judy", or the background that was missing to the left and right of it). Overall, the window card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The window card was nicely backed, and displays well, but bear in mind the above defects before placing a bid on this extremely rare card (we have never auctioned it before).
