Date Sold 11/15/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 6 3/4" x 9 1/4" [17 x 23 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) William Gillette was a stage and movie actor and writer from the 1880s to the 1930s. He is most remembered for his "Sherlock Holmes" plays and films. He is credited with Holmes' stereotypical curved Meerschaum pipe, which he always used in his portrayals, rather than the more accurate straight clay pipes that Holmes always smoked in the stories. Gilette passed away in 1937 at the age of 83. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by William Gillette! Our consignor has been a film historian, federal archivist, and collector for 35 years, and has a vast knowledge of vintage photographs and autographs. He purchased this photo from a reputable theater memorabilia dealer who had many signed photos and playbills from this period, and he (and we) believe it is certain that the autograph is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Also note that this still measures 6 3/4" x 9 1/4" [17 x 23 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Condition: very good. There is some extremely faint smudging down the left of the still, but it is mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light, and it is otherwise in pretty nice condition!
