An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

In a Lonely Place, the classic 1950 Nicholas Ray Hollywood screenwriting romantic crime film noir ("The Bogart suspense picture with the surprise finish-"; "Look deep into these eyes! Is it love, hate or murder? They're the eyes of Humphrey Bogart"; "Suspense mounts steadily right up to the surprise finish!"; about a troubled and possibly deranged screenwriter who becomes involved in the murder of a young woman and how that adversely affects his romantic relationship with his sexy neighbor) starring Humphrey Bogart (as Dixon Steele), Gloria Grahame, Frank Lovejoy, Carl Benton Reid, Art Smith, Jeff Donnell, Martha Stewart, Alix Talton, Morris Ankrum, Robert Warwick, James Griffith, Steven Geray, and Hadda Brooks (the jazz legend who has a brief appearance playing the piano). Note that star Gloria Grahame was married to director Nicholas Ray at the time this movie was made, but they had a very "difficult" relationship, and the marriage ended two years later under pretty dreadful circumstances (and it seems pretty likely that Nicholas Ray drew heavily from his own life in creating the title character of Dixon Steele)!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that the one-sheet and lobby cards from this movie turn up at auctions regularly, but the inserts and half-sheets are far more rare. We have auctioned three inserts over the years, but we have NEVER previously auctioned either half-sheet until we were consigned this style A half-sheet! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had darkening, tears, and some areas of paper loss in the blank borders, with three of the tears extending into the edges of the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was expertly backed, and will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
