Date Sold 4/17/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated Original (probably 1946, from the first Belgian release) Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/2" x 21 1/2" [37 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) Moon Over Burma, the 1940 Louis King Asia romantic love triangle jungle melodrama ("Blazing with the fervor of Burma love and crackling with the jungle tempo of thrills!"; "Ready to love or fight... at a moment's notice!"; "Based on a story by Wilson Collison") starring Dorothy Lamour, Robert Preston, Preston Foster, Doris Nolan, and Albert Basserman. Note that the "sarong girl" image that Dorothy Lamour had started a few years earlier was apparently growing old, because in the studio publicity for this movie, she was called the "new" Dorothy Lamour, and they said "Gone are the studied languor, the posing, and the sarong! This time she swaps cracks at every turn with her co-stars and maintains her high reputation as a singer". Also note that when this movie was being filmed, it had two elephants in it that had been used for many movies, named Sally and Queenie. During filming, they were tragically killed in a fire, and the studio needed more footage with an elephant, so they took a different elephant, Duchess, and put paint on her to make her look more like one of the elephants that had passed away! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was printed on the back of an old map! During World War II in Belgium, there was a massive paper shortage, and so they used whatever paper they could find to print the movie posters, and in many cases they used old maps or old posters, and printed the movie posters on the reverse. They often also made the posters smaller, so they could get more posters printed. This practice continued for a couple of years after World War II. Since these posters are original, and since all such posters are printed on the back of maps or other posters, this is not considered a defect by almost all collectors. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster is somewhat discolored and there are smudges and light stains throughout. Learn More about condition grades
