An Original Vintage Theatrical Trade-Ad (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Music for Madame, the 1937 John G. Blystone musical romantic comedy ("Music by Rudolf Friml and other famous composers"; "Screen play by Gertrude Pourcell and Robert Harari"; about jewel thieves who pretend to be talent agents and take a wonderful unknown opera singer to a Hollywood party, so that when he sings, everyone will be distracted, and they can rob expensive jewels; also at the party is an aspiring opera composer, who happens to be young and beautiful, and after many adventures, her and the singer find love and success) starring Nino Martini (real life opera singer with the Metropolitan Opera), Joan Fontaine (her sixth movie, and her third starring role!), Alan Mowbray, Billy Gilbert, Alan Hale Sr., Grant Mitchell, Erik Rhodes, Lee Patrick, and Romo Vincent. Note that in the 1930s, movie theaters tried to bring real life opera stars into movies, and of course, they tailored the parts so that they would do a lot of singing. Nino Martini was one of these, and he only appeared in a handful of movies, including this one! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: From the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from a yearbook or magazine. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!). Condition: very good.
