An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #3 ("On the High Seas") One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

The Return of Chandu (The Magician), the 1934 Ray Taylor black magic fantasy horror serial sequel ("He's back! The Master of Magic and Thrills"; "with a Distinguished Cast") starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Chandu), Maria Alba, Murdock MacQuarrie, Phyllis Ludwig, and Clara Kimball Young. Note that Chandu the Magician was a radio show that started airing in Los Angeles in 1931, and went nationwide the following year. That was also when a movie adaptation, called Chandu the Magician, was made. Two years later, this sequel, The Return of Chandu, was made, and this time, Bela Lugosi played the lead role, after having a supporting role in the prequel. The show went off the air in 1936. It was revived in 1948 as a 15 minute show and ran for two years.

Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, or it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, or it had fairly major defects that were not restorated at all. If it was restored, you can see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. See below for its pre-restoration defects (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

The poster had much paper loss down the vertical foldline and much paper loss across the horizontal foldlines, as well as many small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. The person who linenbacked the poster did their best to repair the torn and missing areas, but the poster still has a heavily restored look, and it would benefit from further restoration.
