Cannons! Date Sold 2/7/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7" x 10 3/4" [18 x 27 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Mack Sennett was a famous Canadian producer, director, writer, and actor who made many silent slapstick comedies (including those starring the famous Keystone Kops) during the 1910s and continued making movies until 1935, for Triangle, Pathe, and Paramount. Many of the great stars of the 1930s got their start in Mack Sennett comedies. He passed away in 1960 at the age of 80. Important Added Info: Note that someone wrote on the bottom of the back of the still "photo by Geo F. Cannons", and we would think that information is surely correct, because it was likely written when the still was created or soon after. Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7" x 10 3/4" [18 x 27 cm]. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good. The still was trimmed from a larger size (we don't know what it originally measured). It has a crease and bits of surface paper loss in the left of the bottom border and a couple of dot stains in the background area (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
