An Original Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Half-a-Dollar Bill, the 1924 W.S. Van Dyke silent romantic family relationship orphan melodrama ("Story by Curtis Benton"; "Adapted and Personally Supervised by Max Graf"; about a ship captain, and he finds a baby boy that has half of a dollar bill pinned to his clothing, with a note from the mother that she will return one day with the other half of the dollar; the captain adopts the boy, and after many adventures the mother returns, and the captain and her fall in love and marry!) starring "a notable cast including" Anna Q. Nilsson, William Carleton, Raymond Hatton (as "Noodles" the cook), Mitchell Lewis, and Frankie Darro (billed as "Frank Darro"; in the title role as "Half-a-Dollar Bill"). Note that this was Frankie Darro's second movie ever, and he played the title role! We bet few people in 1924 could have imagined how great of a career this younger actor would go on to have! Also note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This three-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with three-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded three-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 16" x 38", so they cost more to send than regularly folded three-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. This three-sheet was printed in 3 sections. Condition: good. There is much paper loss down the right side of the poster extending into the edge of the image and the writing. There are many nail holes, creases, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, and some scattered through the poster. Obviously, this poster needs expert restoration, but it is also mostly "all there", and any talented restorer could properly linenback and restore it! Learn More about condition grades
