An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 41 3/4" [72 x 106 cm]) (Learn More)

Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus, the 1930s circus poster promoting a show, and featuring great art. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this circus poster, with great art of giraffes grazing in a field! We DID have it in a recent auction, but the buyer never paid (which is a great rarity in eMoviePoster.com auctions), so we canceled that auction and are auctioning it again now, so this is the only example of this poster we have auctioned.

We think that Ringling Bros. surely made several posters like this in the 1930s. This one has a tiny "SEP 10 1932" that was originally stamped in the top blank border (but was restored over), so we think it is surely from 1932, although there are other posters for the "combined shows" from other years in the 1930s.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had creases, tears, pinholes, and some tiny paper loss around the edges, with a very few defects scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
