An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 8" x 10 1/2" [20 x 27 cm]) (Learn More) The Magnificent Lie, the 1931 Berthold Viertel romantic mistaken identity melodrama ("Based on 'Laurels and the Lady' by Leonard Merrick"; about a man who was recently blinded, and he has a great love of a French singing star, and his woman friend pretends to be that singing star, and to fall in love with him, to give him a reason to go on living) starring Ruth Chatterton, Ralph Bellamy, Stuart Erwin, Francoise Rosay, and Charles Boyer. Note that Charles Boyer was a college graduate with a philosophy degree, and he appeared in a few movies in his early 20s. He had greater success in talking movies, thanks to his distinctive French accent (which Chuck Jones "borrowed" for his character Pepe Le Pew), but he had his greatest success in Hollywood in the early 1940s, when many of the top U.S. stars were away in World War II. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 10 1/2" [20 x 27 cm]. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. The card has been heavily trimmed to just 8" x 10 1/2" (some theater used it in place of a still). Obviously, a talented restorer could replace the missing area, or the card could be displayed as it is, but bear this significant defect in mind before bidding on this card.
