An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Good Fairy, the classic 1935 William Wyler romantic love triangle comedy ("Screenplay by Preston Sturges"; based on a French play by Ferenc Molnar, but that play was too racy for 1935 U.S. audiences, and Preston Sturges did a brilliant job of adapting it, changing Sullavan's character from a libertine to an adorable waif who grew up sheltered in an orphanage, and after she meets a rich man who will do anything to help her, she decides to pretend to have a husband, and she picks out a man at random, so she can act as a "good fairy" to him!) starring Margaret Sullavan, Herbert Marshall, Frank Morgan, Reginald Owen, Alan Hale Sr., Eric Blore, June Clayworth, and Beulah Bondi

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this insert, and that was 13 years ago, and the buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us after all these years, so this is still the only example of this insert we have ever auctioned! Also note that we have only auctioned window cards, lobby cards, and stills, and no other posters other than this insert!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had very minor creases along the foldlines and a couple of dots of surface paper loss in the right of the bottom foldline. There were some creases, smudges, and small tears around the edges of the poster. There was a V-shaped area of paper loss in the upper left border, extending into the blank orange background above the hat. There was paper loss in the left of the bottom border in an oval shape. There was staining in the upper right border that slightly entered the orange background. There were some smudges and scuffs scattered in the orange areas, and a few that entered Marshall and Morgan's images, and the credits at bottom center. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
