eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result p393 FIGHT NEVER ENDS linen one-sheet movie poster R49 Joe Louis, boxing! Date Sold 3/21/2005Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1949) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Fight Never Ends, the 1948 Joseph Lerner boxing sports crime thriller ("A story as powerful as the Brown Bomber himself!!"; "Slums Romance Crime Delinquency"; "Delinquency Romance Slums Crime"; a movie greatly improved by the presence of the real life heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Louis) starring Joe Louis, Ruby Dee, The Mills Brothers, Harrell Tillman, Emmett 'Babe' Wallace, and Gwendolyn Tynes. Note that this movie was released by Alexander Releasing Corp. in 1948, and it had a limited release, and poster material from that release is rare. The rights to the movie were purchased by Toddy Pictures in 1949, who printed new posters and lobby cards with their name on them (but interestingly, we have auctioned a pressbook that was printed with the Alexander information and overwritten with Toddy information, making it very likely that Toddy bought the rights to it early on, perhaps even during its first run, which they did with other movies from small black studios, and certainly this movie would have been extremely popular, given its star!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had small paper loss at each crossfold. There were creases, small tears, and tiny paper loss on most foldlines. The above defects were well corrected during restoration, although you can see slight signs of restoration on some foldlines. Note that the entire poster had darkened from age (more so along the foldlines) and that the person who restored the poster did not do anything about this darkening (such darkening is extremely typical of original posters from Toddy Pictures, which apparently used a low grade paper stock to print its posters).
