The company was started by Siegfried Bettmann who was later joined by Moritz Schulte. They originally sold bicycles and sewing machines which were bought from other companies and re-branded, but in 1889 the company began producing the first Triumph-branded bicycles. In 1898 Triumph decided to extend production to include motorcycles. The beginning of the First World War was a boost for the company as production was switched to provide for the Allied war effort. Competition from Japanese manufacturers in the 1970s and 1980s brought an end to the original company in 1983, but a new company called Triumph Motorcycles Ltd gained the name rights and is now one of the world's major motorcycle manufacturers Artist: H.W. The poster had pinholes, tears, and some paper loss around the edges, with tears extending into the word "TRIUMPH" at upper left. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking.
