(literal translation of the Russian title), the 1976 Russian Soviet Union USSR Cold War poster featuring art of a man and a woman raising their arms while in the background many people carry different signs representing their country's political systems (including, of course, Democracy and Communism!). On March 15, 1950, the World Peace Council approved the Stockholm Appeal, calling for an absolute ban on nuclear weapons. The appeal was initiated by the French Communist physicist Frederic Joliot-Curie, gathered petitions allegedly signed by 273,470,566 persons (including the entire adult population of the U.S.S.R.). In 1975, the Presidium of the World Peace Council, after observing the 15th anniversary of the Stockholm Appeal, called on all governments, social movements, and organizations advocating peace and progress to join forces for a new world offensive against the arms race in the struggle for universal and total disarmament.
