A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Cherry Maurice Chevalier, the circa 1930s French liquor alcohol advertising poster promoting the purchase of a cherry brandy which was produced under the Maurice Chevalier label. Chevalier was a legendary entertainer who is best-known today for his wonderful French and American movies of the 1930s and 1940s. Note that this poster features Roger de Valerio artwork of Maurice Chevalier wearing a tuxedo and holding a bottle of brandy and a basket of cherries. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Roger de Valerio Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which we have never auctioned before! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds, with a 7" tear in the lower right, entering into Chevalier's leg.
