An Original Vintage Paperbacked German Political Campaign Poster (measures 32" x 47 1/2" [81 x 121 cm]) (Learn More) Es Wahlt Adolf Hitler (literally translates to "Choose Adolf Hitler"), the 1933 German political poster encouraging voters to choose Adolf Hitler in the March 1933 German Federal Election. The poster claims that the Social Democratic Party of Germany staged the 1918 German revolution with the help of French funding, was responsible for Germany's defeat in World War I (WWI) and the subsequent misery of the population. It also claims that Hitler would bring about a better existence for both the individual and the people as a whole. Hitler won the election but despite achieving a much better result than in the November 1932 election, the Nazis did not do as well as Hitler had hoped. In spite of massive violence, intimidation, the jailing of communists and the exile of the SPD leaders, the Nazis won only 43.9% of the vote, rather than the majority that he had expected and Hitler was forced to maintain a coalition with another political party. However, two weeks after the election, Hitler was able to pass the Enabling Act on March 23rd with the support of all non-socialist parties, which effectively gave Hitler dictatorial powers. He immediately abolished the Social Democratic Party, and set into motion the events that led to World War II. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had fie surface paper loss on portions of the folds and separation in portions of the bottom horizontal fold with some tiny bits of paper loss in the borders and a 3" tear in the top left blank corner. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone backed the poster on to a thin paper backing, to conserve the poster, but they did no restoration. The horizontal folds have returned to the poster because the paperbacking is so thin and the separation in the bottom horizontal fold is present again (any restorer or talented amateur could re-glue that area.) There is also a tear in the top left corner that may or may not have been present prior The poster paperbacking and the paper in that area needs to be re-glued. Restoration could either be performed solely to the above areas, or one could choose to have the poster rebacked. Learn More about condition grades
