Great Western Railway: Wales, the 1930s English railroad railway train travel poster encouraging people to use GWR when traveling to Wales. The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest and west of England, the West Midlands, and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833 and ran its first trains in 1838. Note that this poster features Frank Newbould artwork of the Wye Valley, which straddles the border between England and Wales (and is considered one of the most dramatic and scenic landscapes in Britain).
Artist: Frank Newbould
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this travel poster!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had creases and small tears along the folds and in the top and bottom borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone many years ago linenbacked the poster onto a thin linen with no excess, and it was very roughly handled, causing additional creases and surface paper loss in the top and bottom, and also creases scattered throughout (both in the poster and the thin linen). If I owned this cool poster, I would surely have this properly re-backed, but consider all of the above before bidding on it.
