His childhood was unhappy, and he ran away to join the circus, where his future partner Harry Kellar also performed. Thurston was deeply impressed after he attended magician Alexander Herrmann's magic show and was determined to equal his work. He eventually became one of the most famous magician of his time, and his traveling magic show was so large that it needed eight train cars to transport his road show. Hr passed away in 1936 at the age of 66. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this magic poster! Posters from Thurston, a major magician from the early 1900s, are many times more rare than posters from Carter and George, two other famous magicians. This is because there were "warehouse finds" of Carter and George posters, but we know of no similar finds for Thurston posters, and in fact, this is the very first vintage Thurston poster we have ever auctioned! The date at the top of the poster points to 1932 and we believe that is likely when he performed at the RKO Orpheum. Note that this poster is printed on a heavy window card-like stock that cannot be rolled. The poster will be shipped in a flat package. Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
