An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 12" x 15 1/4") (Learn More)

Cheri-Bibi, the 1938 Leon Mathot French Devil's Island penal colony prison crime melodrama (based on a true prison escape story by Gaston Laroux, who is best remembered for having written the novel "Phantom of the Opera"; it sounds like this movie has a lot in common with "Papillon", but of course, that movie was based on an entirely different true story) starring Pierre Fresnay (in the title role as Francis dit Cheri-Bibi), Jean-Pierre Aumont, Suzet Mais, Colette Darfeuil, and Marcel Dalio

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is a small size, and we do not know if it originally had a top blank border as later Belgians did. Given that it is a very small size, we would think it is likely that it was released after 1937 (possibly during World War II), but we do not know. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: very good. The poster had pinholes and paper loss in the blank corners and some minor border defects. It was folded once across the middle. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the tiny defects, but they are really not at all distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
