Artist: Niko Important Added Info: Note that this poster was created in 2009 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the creation of the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry (Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos), or ICAIC. There are early versions of the poster that were made in 1973, and then again during a re-release in the 1990s, however, neither is the case with this particular poster. Note also that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods.
