Date Sold 9/4/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Diamond Jim, the 1935 A. Edward Sutherland historical biographical melodrama (about legendary big money spender Diamond Jim Brady; "Mighty adventure thrill show!"; "The inside expose of a master of women!"; "See... The true story of the life, the loves and intrigues of Lillian Russell! See... The million dollar bribe! See... The unbelievable astounding inside revelation of the flashiest gambler in history!"; "From the book by Parker Morell"; written by Preston Sturges) starring Edward Arnold (in the title role; "as Diamond Jim"), Jean Arthur, Binnie Barnes (as Lillian Russell), Cesar Romero, Eric Blore, Hugh O'Connell, and Darby Jones. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that for this re-release, the movie was billed as "Preston Sturges' Diamond Jim", even though Sturges was only one of the co-writers! This would almost surely mean that this re-release occurred during the time of Sturges' greatest popularity, at which time it would be a great asset to present the movie as a "Preston Sturges movie"! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. Note that the credits area and the black background around the title area have been painted over with black paint which covers the studio and small credits information. After it was painted, "A Universal Picture" was added in the lower left corner (with glue). Apparently, an amateur thought they would try to pass this poster off as the 1935 original, but it is from the 1940s Re-Release. The back of the poster has lots of masking tape on the folds because the folds were beginning to separate, but this is not noticeable from the front. Despite the many defects this poster has, it would still look nice displayed on a wall as is, but if one wanted to have it restored, it could likely be done but we do not know how easy or difficult this would be to do. So, please do not bid unless you would be happy to own this poster as-is or are willing to have it restored. Learn More about condition grades
