Grands Magasins Du Louvre (literally translates to "Department Stores Of The Louvre") was founded in 1855 as Les Galeries du Louvre, and was located on the ground floor of the Grand Hotel du Louvre, which had just opened its doors in Paris on the rue de Rivoli. In 1875, the owners purchased the entire building and after two years, had a grand re-opening as Grands Magasins Du Louvre. The store was almost entirely destroyed during World War II (WWII) but was rebuilt and continued to operate until it closed in 1974.
Artist: Jules Cheret
