An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 38" [64 x 97 cm]) (Learn More)

West Point of the Air: Flying Cadets, the 1940 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front military recruitment poster ("Unmarried men of excellent character, citizens of the United States, between 20 and 27 years of age, of sound physique and excellent health, who have completed at least one-half the credits for graduation from a four-year course of a recognized college or university, or who pass an examination which is the equivalent thereof. Apply to the Commanding General of the Corps Area in which you live, or to The Adjutant General, Washington D.C., for particulars on training as a flying cadet") encouraging men to join the U.S. Army Air Corps, and featuring artwork and images of fighter airplanes. Though America had not joined the war at that point, many realized that it was inevitable and military recruitment was a top priority in the early 1940s. Note that most don't realize that America's aerial warfare service was actually part of the U.S. Army at first. It was established in 1926 as the United States Army Air Service and later renamed to United States Army Air Corps. The Air Corps became the United States Army Air Forces in June of 1941 and they were given greater autonomy from the Army's command structure. In 1947 the service was legally abolished by legislation which then established the separate Department of the Air Force that we know today.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this war poster!
