Date Sold 2/3/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 9 1/2" x 12" [24 x 30 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo, the 1937 Eugene Forde Monaco Asian detective mystery crime gambling casino thriller ("Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; "Original Story by Robert Ellis and Helen Logan") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Keye Luke (as Lee Chan), Virginia Field, Sidney Blackmer, Harold Huber, Kay Linaker, and Robert Kent. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this English pressbook (note that there are no posters pictured on the interior pages), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this English pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. Learn More about condition grades
