A Vintage Paperback Book (measures 5 1/2" x 7 3/4" [14 x 20 cm]; 128 pages) (Learn More) The Divine Woman, the 1928 Victor Sjostrom (he was a major Swedish director of the 1910s and 1920s, and late in his life, he turned to acting, giving memorable performances in several Ingmar Bergman movies, most notably "Wild Strawberries") silent France romantic love triangle melodrama (from the play 'Starlight' by Gladys Unger; about a young small town French girl who moves to Paris and wants to become an actress, and she is helped by an older producer who was once involved with her mother; she falls in love with a deserter from the army, and he is put in jail, and the older man makes romantic moves towards the girl, and she must decide which of the men to choose) starring Greta Garbo, Lars Hanson, Lowell Sherman, Johnny Mack Brown, Polly Moran, and Dorothy Cumming. Note that this is a "lost" film (one of the eight reels still exists, but sadly, the rest appears to be completely lost). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. We are also currently auctioning a first edition hardcover version (which was published after the first edition paperback version) of this book in a separate auction. Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 30 movie edition books (and a few closely related items) that were consigned to us from a man who has collected such books for over half a century! Included are some of the most rare and desirable of these books, and all have the original dust jackets (many times such books lost their dust jackets over the years and they are far more rare with the dust jacket). This is a very rare opportunity to obtain one or more of these books, most of which we have either never auctioned before or only auctioned once before! The cover of the paperback book has some scuffing around the edges and in the top left corner.
