An Unfolded East German Special Poster (measures 22 3/4" x 32" [58 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) The Peace Race was an annual multiple stage bicycle race held in the Eastern Bloc states of Czechoslovakia, East Germany, and Poland. Maintained by three Communist party newspapers (Rude Pravo, Neues Deutschland, and Trybuna Ludu), it was dubbed to be the "world's biggest amateur cycling race" and "Tour de France of the East". It was first organized in 1948 with the intent of relieving tensions existing between Central European countries following the interwar period and World War II (WWII). Following the fall of Communism in 1989, the Peace Race was no longer state-sponsored and organizers faced trouble with gathering funds, and the event was last held in 2006. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good to fine. The poster has never been folded and it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
