Note that this was a theatrical compilation of televised performances with the addition of shots of an audience and an emcee to give the illusion of a complete stage show. In 1955, Joseph Kohn and Studio Films produced a series of features and shorts displaying many black variety acts by famous performers; among these are four features (one of which is this one, Jazz Festival), and the others are Rhythm and Blues Review, Rock 'n' Roll Revue, and Basin Street Revue. There were also several television shows derived from the above four films, which were Beale Street Revue, Downbeat Revue, Harlem on Review, Harlem Merry-Go-Round, Rhythm in Harlem, and Stars Over Harlem. The original television series Showtime at the Apollo contained performances from these films. Movie posters from any of these four films are quite rare.
