It was directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel. It was performed and broadcast live as a Halloween episode on October 30, 1938. The episode is famous for supposedly tricking some of its listeners into believing that an actual Martian invasion was taking place due to the "breaking news" style of storytelling employed in the first half of the show. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful news photo, which measures 7" x 9 1/4" [18 x 23 cm], is from right after the famed radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds by Orson Welles in 1938, which "panicked the entire nation".
