Artist: Luigi Martinati Important Added Info: Note that we first auctioned this poster in 2010. At that time, the leading experts in the hobby told us that it was the 1959 first release of this movie in Italy. The person who bought it from us in 2010 re-consigned it to us this year, and when we listed it as the 1959 first release, an expert came forward to tell us that it was actually a re-release, because in the years since 2010, he had discovered that there WAS a 1954 release of this movie in Italy! Had this been ANY other auction, the original buyer would have been "out of luck", because all other auctions have a "buyer beware" policy, but because we don't, we agreed to give him a refund in full for what he paid, even though we had been relying on experts, and even though it had been seven years since he bought the poster. SO WE ARE NOW RE-AUCTIONING IT, CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED AS A 1959 RE-RELEASE. Given that we have never been consigned another example of it in the intervening years (which means this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned), we know that it is extremely rare, and of course, the 1954 first release posters are even more rare, because we have never auctioned an Italian poster of any size from that release! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss scattered down the middle vertical fold and across the horizontal foldline that runs through the end of the title, with a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. There were pinholes, tears, and smudges around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
