He is best remembered for his starring roles in the two great 1950 religious epics Ben-Hur (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film) and The Ten Commandments, as well as scores of other movies including: Touch of Evil, Planet of the Apes, Hamlet, The Big Country, Tombstone, Three Musketeers, Soylent Green, Julius Caesar, and El Cid. Late in his life, he became head of the NRA, promoting gun rights. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 84. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and died from pneumonia. Artist: J. Reus Important Added Info: Note that this is a really special (and really cool) bullfight poster! It was created for a special bullfight that was held while the cast and crew of El Cid were in Spain filming the movie. The producers of the bullfight invited Charlton Heston, producer Samuel Bronston, director Anthony Mann, and others to this special bullfight, where they gave Charlton Heston a "key to the city" as an event between bullfights! This special poster was printed for this specific event, and the information is printed at the bottom of the poster, with Charlton Heston's name prominently at center (see our image). Our consignor obtained this poster from the estate of Charlton Heston, and it was his personal copy of the poster (and we have not seen another)! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good to fine.
