An Autographed 2 3/4" x 4" [7 x 10 cm] Bookplate (Learn More) Sir John Gielgud was an English actor from the 1920s to the 2000s. He acted primarily on the stage but had occasional film roles over many decades, and is widely considered one of the finest Shakespearean actors ever! Some of his movies include: Arthur (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Romeo & Juliet (1954), Becket (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Gandhi. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 96. Important Added Info: This bookplate has been personally autographed (signed) by John Gielgud. Authors often sign bookplates like these, which are then glued to the first interior blank page of a new book they have written. This allows bookstores to offer "signed" copies of the book, without the expense of transporting the books to and from the author! Sometimes, as in this case, there are extra bookplates that are then sold separately. It could be glued into a book by this author (or it could be displayed in a different way).
