The company started by operating ships on routes to the Middle East, and in 1871 saw its golden age during the period of French colonial expansion with ships serving the Mediterranean, Black, and Red seas. Artist: Albert Brenet Important Added Info: Note that construction on La Marseillaise began in 1939, was stopped by World War II (WWII), resumed by order of the Nazis in 1940, who later scuttled her in 1944 before she was finished. After the war, she was raised, and had her maiden voyage in 1949. In 1961, she crashed into a dock in Granada after an explosion in the engine room, and sank 2 days later. Condition: very good.
