Date Sold 12/10/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Hearts in Dixie, the 1929 Paul Sloane black African American family tragedy ("All colored cast"; from the story by Walter Weems; a series of slices of life of black life in America at this time, with "black" music playing in each section; the most memorable section is about a black man whose daughter is married to a man who sponges off of her, and who leaves her to both earn a living and take care of the two children; when the woman gets sick, her husband takes her to a voodoo doctor instead of a real one, and she passes away, and the grandfather decides to send his grandson "up north" for schooling, so that he won't turn out like his father) starring Stepin Fetchit, Clarence Muse, Eugene Jackson, Dorothy Morrison (sister of Ernest 'Sunshine Sammy' Morrison of Our Gang fame), A.C.H. Billbrew, and Mildred Washington. Note that the producer of this movie, Winfield R. Sheehan, originally planned this as a musical short, but he saw it had greater potential, and he sold it as a feature film to William Fox, and it was entirely re-cast, and it became the first black sound feature film! Note that movie paper of any kind from it is beyond rare! Finally, note that the IMDb has a plot summary of the movie that we believe contains substantial mistakes. They have Mildred Washington playing one of the children, but she was 24 years old at the time! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a single still and a Swedish poster (26 years ago for $2,530!) from this movie, and NO other movie paper, until we received this second still! Note that in our last set of auctions that include multiple stills from single titles, we had 72 sets of stills that came from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. Now, we are auctioning the remaining stills from this wonderful group, 131, all in separate auctions. In addition to them including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and sometimes from incredibly rare titles!), most of these stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. After these stills are auctioned, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection! Condition: good. The still has changed to a sepia, and the image has lightened somewhat. There are stains and paper remnants in the upper left corner and tiny paper loss in the bottom right blank corner. Learn More about condition grades
