Date Sold 6/12/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Return of the Durango Kid, the 1945 Derwin Abrahams masked hero cowboy western ("Newest...And Greatest Wild West Hero!"; "Gallop to glory with a great new hero... Robin Hood of the Range!"; "Meet a great new western thrill star!"; "New... Different... Exciting...") starring Charles Starrett (in the title role as The Durango Kid), Tex Harding, Jean Stevens, John Calvert, and The Jesters (a western musical group that were a popular recording act in the early to mid 1940s, and they appeared in a handful of movies; they are not to be confused with the 1960s doo-wop group of the same name). Note that this was the first sequel to 1940's "The Durango Kid", but oddly, the producers used the tagline "Meet a great new western thrill star" (perhaps they felt that after five years, it was as if he was first appearing). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Charles Starrett! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that this signed lobby card (and 63 others) comes from the collection of the late Bob Colman, owner of the Hollywood Poster Exchange store in Los Angeles for decades. What made this store so wonderful for collectors was that Mr. Colman sold the legendary "Cozy Theatre" collection, which he purchased (with a partner) in 1968, and it took over 30 years for him to sell the contents of that single collection, and many of the items contained in it were stamped with "Cozy Theatre" on the back, so they are easily identifiable today. But Mr. Colman was also well known for having Hollywood celebrities shop at his store, where they would often look to purchase items from movies they had appeared in. When a celebrity would come in, Mr. Colman would locate a lobby card from his inventory and ask the celebrity to sign it. Sometimes they would personalize it to him, sometimes to his wife, Janet, and sometimes they would simply sign their name. This lobby card comes from the estate of Bob Colman and was signed by the celebrity in his presence, and personalized to Mr. Colman. We do not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the autograph is genuine (and the lobby card has great provenance)! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. There are some pairs of staple holes and faint creases around the edges. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
