A Linenbacked Belgian Advertising Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 30" [55 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) The Hengstenberg Sewing Machine Company was founded in the 1870s in Bielefeld, Germany by Carl Schmidt & Hugo Hengstenberg. Their machine were often copies of Singer sewing machines, but what set them apart was the intricate decorations added to the machines. Artist: A. Vossaert Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had paper loss in the top border that extended into the top edge of the border area. It had stains scattered in the bottom 3", with a 3" tear and a 7" tear in the right of the bottom border. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
