An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Locandina Movie Poster (measures 13 1/4" x 28" [34 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare, but very controversial poster! What is the controversy? We have seen a different locandina which looks very much like this poster. However, the other poster has a tiny "Ottobre 1955" in the bottom right corner, everything else is the same (even the other tiny printer info at the bottom). There are other locandinas like this that have a different printer at bottom left, but this one has the same printer as the one that seems to surely be from October 1955. So what is this poster? We questioned every Italian expert we could (and experts on Italian posters), and they all have a different opinion! What we think MAY be the answer is that the movie was obviously very popular, and perhaps new posters were needed, but by that point, it was 1956, and they removed the date from the poster when they did a second printing for the first release. Another possibility is that this poster is from the 1964 re-release in Italy, because we know there was such a re-release. But until and unless further information surfaces, we can't say for certain. So we have put "1950s" on this auction and "perhaps 1956", based on the information above, but please do not bid on this very rare poster unless you can accept the uncertainty as to exactly when it is from.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded once horizontally and there are creases along that fold (and a few are scattered in a few portions of the image.) There are a few creases and tiny tears along portions of some edges and a slightly larger tear at lower right that affects only blank paper. It is otherwise in pretty good condition and after a simple linenbacking the poster will look great!
