An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Lana Turner (born Julia Jean Mildred Frances Turner) was an actress from the 1930s to the 1990s. She was born in 1921 in Idaho, and her father was murdered when she was a young girl, and her mother moved to California. In 1937, she was discovered at a soda fountain (not Schwab's, but one close by), and she had a small role in 1937's "They Won't Forget", and she became very popular very quickly. She remained a top leading actress for over 20 years, though her turbulent personal life definitely affected her career (including the murder of her violent gangster lover, Johnny Stompanato, by her own 14 year old daughter Cheryl Crane, and also her eight husbands, the first of which was bandleader Artie Shaw, who himself was married eight times, including to Ava Gardner!). Some of her movies include: The Postman Always Rings Twice, Imitation of Life, The Bad and the Beautiful, Peyton Place (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. She passed away in 1995 at the age of 74. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a special "personality" one-sheet. Normally, studios made 22" x 28" size personality posters that were vertical in orientation, but looked like half-sheets, and had a head and shoulders image of a popular star (these were made from the early 1910s through the mid 1940s). Apparently, MGM decided to revive this after World War II, creating personality one-sheets of their top stars. We know that they made a Lana Turner in 1947, a Clark Gable in 1949, an Ava Gardner in 1950, and there were likely others (perhaps they did one each year, so therefore, there would surely be a 1948 one). They are quite rare! Even though this poster is undated, we know it is from exactly 1947, both because it has a litho number that dates to that year, and because MGM put "LITHO-POSTER CORPORATION OF AMERICA" on their one-sheets that year. If anyone knows more about these posters, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. There is a vertical crease running from the top crossfold to the bottom crossfold and for most of it, it is 1" to the right of the vertical foldline. The poster was hand folded and it was folded slightly irregularly, and there are some small tears on parts of the foldlines. After a simple linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic!
